What Is Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care?

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care is specialized in-home support designed for seniors experiencing memory loss, confusion, cognitive decline, or behavioral changes related to dementia. This type of care helps individuals remain safe and comfortable while continuing to live in a familiar environment.

Care may include assistance with personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, mobility support, supervision, companionship, and daily routines. Because dementia affects everyone differently, care plans are often adjusted over time to match changing needs. Consistent support and familiar routines can help reduce anxiety and confusion while improving overall comfort and quality of life.

Signs It May Be Time for Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care

Memory loss and cognitive decline can gradually make everyday routines more difficult to manage without additional support. Families often begin considering professional Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care when a loved one starts forgetting medications, struggling with meals or personal hygiene, becoming confused throughout the day, or showing noticeable changes in mood and behavior.

Safety concerns such as wandering, falls, or difficulty remaining alone at home may also indicate that extra support is needed. In many cases, family caregivers may begin to feel emotionally and physically overwhelmed as they try to balance caregiving responsibilities with work, family life, and other daily obligations. Professional in-home care can help provide structure, reassurance, and consistent support while improving comfort and safety at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. Customer references are available upon request.

What sort of screening process do your caregivers go through?2024-02-02T17:47:07+00:00

New caregivers go through an extensive screening process which includes DMV and a criminal background check, reference-checks, and health screening.

If the caregiver turns out not be a good fit, can I get a new one?2024-02-02T17:47:28+00:00

Yes, talk with us and we will arrange for you to get a new caregiver.

What happens if my caregiver gets sick or has an emergency and can’t come?2024-02-02T17:47:46+00:00

We have a pool of caregivers that are there to fill in when these situations occur.

Can my caregiver help me with my medications?2024-02-02T17:48:02+00:00

Your caregiver will be able to help remind you to take your medications; however, they are not allowed to physically administer any medications to you. One thing we have found to be helpful is for you to have a family member set up a pill organizer. Although your caregiver is not allowed to load the pill box, they can remind you if you have forgotten to take your medication.

Does the caregiver require his/her own room? Do they move into my house?2024-02-02T17:48:25+00:00

If you are contracting with Caring Hands Caregivers for 24 hour care then, yes, the caregiver does stay in your home. We do request that, if possible, the caregiver does have his/her own room. Caregivers typically bring only the clothes and supplies they will need for the shift they are covering.

How do you monitor the quality of care your employees provide?2024-02-02T17:48:41+00:00

Being a smaller agency helps greatly in this area. When a new client is brought on board, we leave a Care Log on site. The caregiver uses the log to capture the information on the daily care of the individual as outlined in the initial Care and Communication plan. The log is reviewed on a regular basis to ensure the level of care is on track with goals of the family. Also, the General Manager of the agency will make both scheduled and surprise visits to the client to ensure the quality of care is being delivered.

Who do I pay and how does it work?2024-02-02T17:48:55+00:00

Caring Hands will bill you on the 1st and 15th of each month for the services provided during the prior period. You just confirm the billing amount is correct and pay Caring Hands directly.

Do you take insurance? What types?2024-02-02T17:49:25+00:00

Most medical insurance plans do not pay for private duty services like those offered by Caring Hands Caregivers. However, Long Term Care Insurance companies often do pay for these services. If you have one of these plans, we will be happy to assist you in getting reimbursed. Also, if the client is a veteran of one of the armed forces, there are possible benefits available. Just ask and we will help you initiate the process of applying for these benefits.
