In-Home Shower Service for Seniors
A safe shower at home. Once a week. That’s it.
When bathing starts to feel risky for your mom or dad, you don’t need a full day of care to fix it. Caring Hands Caregivers offers in-home shower service for seniors in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties: a one-hour visit with a dementia-trained caregiver, no 4-hour minimum shift, and no pressure. Just one thing, done right.

Why start with the shower
Most families don’t need many hours of care to start. They need help with the one thing that’s become risky.
Maybe you’ve noticed your dad skipping showers, or your mom gripping the towel bar a little too tightly. Bathing is often where the most private, most difficult parts of aging show up first. It’s also usually the last thing a parent will admit they need help with.
That worry is well founded. CDC research on bathroom injuries found that about 8 in 10 are caused by falls, roughly two-thirds happen in the tub or shower, and injury rates climb sharply with age.
That’s why our in-home shower service focuses on exactly this. One hour, with a caregiver trained to work with people experiencing cognitive changes, to protect your parent’s dignity, and to notice the small warning signs families often miss.
One hour. One task. One person. Every week.

Signs Your Parent May Need Help With Bathing
It’s rarely one dramatic moment. More often, it’s a handful of small things you notice on a visit home, and a quiet feeling that something has changed.
- Skipping showers, or wearing the same clothes several days in a row
- Holding onto towel bars, sinks, or walls to steady themselves in the bathroom
- A recent fall, a near-fall, or a new fear of falling
- Memory changes that make bathing confusing or stressful for both of you
- You’re helping with showers yourself, and it’s straining your back or your relationship
- Worry that your parent is bathing alone, with no one nearby if something goes wrong
The Care & Communication Plan
The reason families choose us is what happens after the first month.
Not knowing what comes next can be the hardest part of caring for an aging parent. Within 30 days of your first shower visit, our team sits down with you to build a written Care and Communication Plan that:
- Maps out the top 5 risks specific to your parent
- Describes the scenarios most likely to lead to the next level of care
- Shows what each level of care costs, from Virtual Caregiver to hourly care, live-in care, and assisted living
- Sets a family communication plan, including who calls whom, and when
- Gets reviewed and updated every 90 days

The care continuum
The shower service is often just the beginning.
You don’t have to plan for everything today. When your family is ready, and never before, we can add more support with the same caregivers your parent already trusts.
Every family starts where they are. Not where a sales pitch says they should be.

Frequently asked questions
Questions Families Ask About In-Home Shower Service for Seniors
It’s normal to have a lot of questions before inviting help into such a private part of your parent’s day. Here are the ones we hear most.
Many home care agencies require a 3- or 4-hour minimum shift, even when your parent only needs help with a shower. Our in-home shower service is exactly one hour, focused on exactly what your parent needs. You pay for the help you actually use, and nothing more.
They don’t have to be. This isn’t care in the traditional sense. It’s a professional shower service: one task, one hour, one person. Many seniors are comfortable with it because it’s specific and time-limited, and it often becomes a gentle first step toward having more help available if and when it’s needed.
Every caregiver who provides our shower service is trained specifically in dementia care. They know how to pace the visit, offer gentle cues, avoid moments that can lead to agitation, and protect your parent’s dignity from start to finish. You can read more about our approach to Alzheimer’s and dementia care.
Yes, and many families do, but only when they’re ready. Virtual Caregiver monitoring is often the first add-on for families who want 24/7 peace of mind between visits. Hourly care can be added at any time, usually with the same caregivers who already know your parent.
Refusal is common at first, and it’s often temporary. Our team will pause, listen, and adjust. Sometimes the answer is a different time of day, a different caregiver match, or a new way of introducing the visit. This service has to work for the person receiving it, and we’ll work with you until it does. Our guide on what to do when a parent refuses help may also be useful.
In most cases, we aim for a first shower visit within 5 business days of your intake call. High-priority hospital discharges can often be accommodated within 48 hours.
Original Medicare does not cover non-medical home care, such as help with bathing, when that’s the only care needed. Long-term care insurance often does, depending on your policy. Our team will help you understand your coverage and provide the documentation you need.
